Reference Recipe

  • Hook Wide-gap stinger/streamer hook (Gamakatsu B10S), 1-4
  • Thread White 210 denier flat waxed nylon

Materials

  • Weight Lead-free (.025 wire, 12-15 wraps)
  • Tail Tan carapace (pre-cut tapered craft fur strip, 1.5 shanks long)
  • Body Tan carapace (craft fur / body fur, brushed)
  • Flash Pearl flashabou (few strands Krystal Flash)
  • Eyes Yellow/black material (adhesive, coated with UV resin)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start the thread; lay 12-15 wraps of.025 lead-free wire across the front third and lock them fore and aft so the head sits heavy.
  2. Tie in the tapered craft fur tail at the bend, one and a half shank lengths long. Keep it sparse, half the fur you think, so it breathes and doesn't foul.
  3. Add a few strands of pearl Krystal Flash along each side of the tail, trimmed to match its length.
  4. Dub or spin small clumps of body fur up the shank in a slim taper, packing each clump back before advancing to build a fish-shaped belly.
  5. Stop a full eye-length short of the eye, whip finish, and snip.
  6. Brush the body fur back with a dubbing brush, then wet-fold and stroke the fibers rearward to set the baitfish profile.
  7. Press an adhesive eye to each side of the head and lock everything with a thin coat of UV resin.
