Thorax cover Pearl Tinsel Ice Blue, Swiss Straw Brown
How to tie it
Slide the 2.3mm Slotted Tungsten Black bead onto the hook. Wrap about five turns of .015 lead-free wire behind it, squeeze the end flat with pliers and push it into the bead slot, break off the other end, and touch it with superglue.
Start the Semperfli Beige Nanosilk behind the wire and run it down the shank to just before the bend.
Cut four Pheasant Tail fibers at 90 degrees from the stem so the tips align, measure them about a body length, tie in with loose turns (pull to shorten if long), bind the butts up to the lead wire and break them off.
Tie in the Medium Copper Wire right up at the lead wire for a smooth transition and bind it down to the tail tie-in; add superglue and build a thread ramp from the bend up onto the lead wire.
Wrap the copper wire forward in touching turns, the first turn being the critical one, up onto the lead wire and to the thread, leaving about one turn of bare wire behind the bead for the thorax; tie off, bend and break.
Coat the wire body with a thin layer of UV resin, spread it with a bodkin so it soaks between the turns, and cure.
Fold a long strand of Pearl Tinsel Ice Blue in two, square the ends, and tie it in on top behind the bead with the two strands lying side by side. Cut the Swiss Straw Brown to a quarter, fold it, and tie it in centred on top.
Twist a thin noodle of Black Peacock Custom Mix and dub a thorax slightly thicker than the body, ending with the thread right behind the bead.
Pull the Swiss Straw then the tinsel forward over the thorax, bind behind the bead, take one turn in front, and snip both close.
Three-turn whip finish and snip. Coat the thorax cover and out onto the bead with UV resin and cure, then a small drop more to smooth the transition from wire to cover to bead, and cure.
