How to tie it
Start waxed 30 denier GSP as thin as you can work it. Vasies waxes it specifically to stop it slipping on the kapok, and points out that white GSP can be coloured with a permanent marker to whatever shade you need.
Tie in the flat gold tinsel at the bend, then dub a slim cinnamon kapok body forward to the 65% mark. Kapok is extremely light and water-repellent, which is what lets this fly float on CDC alone.
Rib forward with gold tinsel in five or six open turns and tie off.
Tie in a small slip of woodcock combined with natural brown CDC as the underwing, laid flat over the body.
Tie the natural brown CDC wing over the top, tent style, tips just past the bend. Vasies uses CDC exclusively here because of the water-print effect it leaves on the surface, which a rooster hackle cannot reproduce.
Whip finish a small head and fish it dead drift. For extremely fast water, tie the same dressing with a rooster hackle instead.
