  • Hook Maruto D04 BL (short) or Daiichi 1190 BL (longer), 12-16
  • Thread White, waxed (can be coloured with marker) GSP 30 denier

Materials

  • Body Cinnamon (kapok dubbing)
  • Ribbing Gold flat tinsel (flat tinsel)
  • Underwing Natural brown woodcock combined cdc (woodcock combined with CDC)
  • Wing Natural brown cdc (CDC)

How to tie it

  1. Start waxed 30 denier GSP as thin as you can work it.
  2. Tie in the flat gold tinsel at the bend, then dub a slim cinnamon kapok body forward to the 65% mark. Kapok is extremely light and water-repellent, which is what lets this fly float on CDC alone.
  3. Rib forward with gold tinsel in five or six open turns and tie off.
  4. Tie in a small slip of woodcock combined with natural brown CDC as the underwing, laid flat over the body.
  5. Tie the natural brown CDC wing over the top, tent style, tips just past the bend.
  6. Whip finish a small head and fish it dead drift. For extremely fast water, tie the same dressing with a rooster hackle instead.
