Reference Recipe
- Hook 2XL dry hook (e.g. TMC 5212), 6-12
- Thread Black 6/0
Materials
- Underbody Black ostrich herl (2mm foam strip)
- Overbody Black ostrich herl (Second 2mm foam strip)
- Wing Dun microfibetts (Zelon or organza)
- Legs Barred black/orange rubber legs (Round rubber, two pairs)
- Indicator Orange permanent marker (Foam tab or poly tuft)
How to tie it
- Mount the hook and start the thread, laying a base the length of the shank.
- Bind a black foam strip along the top of the shank, then lash a second layer over it to build the thick cicada body.
- Segment the body with 2-3 tight thread wraps, tying in a splayed pair of rubber legs at the rear segment.
- Tie in a flat dun Zelon wing over the back, reaching just past the bend, so it lands with a splat and lies flat.
- Add the front pair of legs and a short orange foam tab up top for visibility at the 85% mark.
- Whip finish behind the eye and cement the thread segments.
