Materials
Foam, 1.5-2mm Tan fly tying foam (One strip about a hook gap wide, rounded at the rear)
Snowshoe hare fur Black dubbing (A small tuft (under wing))
Snowshoe hare fur Natural brown hare s mask dubbing (A small tuft (over wing))
Round rubber legs Brown silly legs nymph size (One two-inch piece, folded)
How to tie it
Lay a tan thread base back to the start of the bend.
Cut a strip of 2mm tan foam about a hook gap wide, round off the back end, lay it along the top of the shank and secure it at the bend with four or five firm-but-not-cutting wraps, adding a wrap under and over the foam to keep it from spinning.
Move the thread halfway to the eye and bind the foam down again with several wraps, under and over as before, to form the middle segment.
At that same point tie in a small tuft of black snowshoe hare as an under wing and trim the butts, leaving them a little long so they cannot pull out.
Lay a small tuft of natural brown snowshoe hare on top of the black and secure it the same way, then trim.
Fold a two-inch piece of brown round rubber over the shank at the same point with two loose wraps so you can position a leg coming off each side, then tighten.
Fold the front of the foam strip back over the top of the tie-in area and take several wraps behind the eye to form a bulbous head.
Whip finish at the back of the head, trim the foam overhang short, then open the front legs up and trim all four to length, keeping the back pair slightly shorter than the front.
