Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL dry hook, turned-down eye (e.g. TMC 5212), 6-10
  • Thread Tan 6/0

Materials

  • Body Tan carapace (2mm foam strip)
  • Underbody Tan carapace (Dry-fly dubbing)
  • Wing Natural case (Elk hair)
  • Indicator Orange permanent marker (Small poly tuft (optional))
  • Legs Barred rubber legs (Sili Legs, two pairs)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start the thread, base to the bend.
  2. Bind a tan foam strip at the bend, tag pointing back, and dub a thin underbody to the 60% mark.
  3. Fold the foam over and lash it down for the rear segment, then add a splayed pair of sili legs.
  4. Stack and bind a small elk-hair wing with tips to the bend.
  5. Dub a short front underbody, fold the foam forward and bind at the 85% mark, then add the front legs and a short orange poly indicator tuft.
  6. Whip finish under the front foam and cement; keep the underbody sparse for a high float.
