Classic Recipe

  • Hook 2XL dry-fly/terrestrial hook (TMC 5212), 8-14
  • Thread To match 6/0 (140 denier)

Materials

  • Tail Krystal Flash (few strands)
  • Underbody Ice Dub (as needed)
  • Body Two-tone 2mm foam (contrasting back and belly) (1 strip)
  • Wing Two contrasting para-post wing tufts (2 clumps)
  • Legs Barred Sili legs (2 pairs)

How to tie it

  1. Tie in a Krystal Flash tail at the bend.
  2. Tie down a strip of two-tone (duo-color) foam at the bend so both colors show as back and belly.
  3. Dub an Ice Dub underbody forward.
  4. Segment the foam into 2-3 segments with thread wraps.
  5. Tie in two contrasting wing tufts and barred legs at the segments for a bi-color, high-visibility profile.
  6. Finish behind the eye, whip finish and cement.
  7. Trim wings and legs to length.
