Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL dry/nymph hook (e.g. TMC 5262), 6-8
  • Thread Tan 140 denier

Materials

  • Tail Pearl anti static bag strip (A few strands Krystal Flash)
  • Underbody Tan carapace (UV Ice Dub)
  • Body Tan carapace (2mm foam strip)
  • Wing White uni stretch (McFlylon or para-post yarn)
  • Legs Barred tan rubber legs (Sili Legs, two pairs)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start the thread, laying a base to the bend.
  2. Tie in a short Krystal Flash tail and secure a tan foam strip at the bend, leaving the tag hanging back over the tail.
  3. Dub a thin Ice Dub underbody forward to the 60% mark, then pull the foam over and lash it down there to form the rear body segment.
  4. Tie in a clump of white poly wing and a pair of sili legs at that tie-down point, splaying legs to each side.
  5. Dub a short second underbody, fold the foam forward again and bind at the 85% mark for the front segment, then add the second wing and leg pair.
  6. Whip finish under the front foam and trim the wing to about one shank; use half the dubbing you think you need so the foam does the floating.
