Reference Recipe

  • Hook Saltwater flats hook (e.g. TMC 811S), 4-8
  • Thread Tan 140 denier

Materials

  • Eyes Silver metal tape (Medium bead chain)
  • Tail Pearl/orange material (A small clump of Krystal Flash)
  • Body Pearl anti static bag strip (Diamond braid or Krystal Flash)
  • Wing/Collar Tan/sand fabric puff paint flexible cement (Craft fur or pseudo hair, sparse)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start the thread, then bind the bead-chain eyes on top at the 80% mark.
  2. At the bend tie in a short Krystal Flash tail, well under one shank long.
  3. Tie in the pearl braid and wrap it forward, figure-8ing around the eyes, then tie off behind the eye.
  4. Turn the hook point-up and tie in a sparse tan craft-fur wing behind the eyes so it drapes over and shields the point, one and a half shanks long.
  5. Sweep the fur back, add a few strands of flash over the top if wanted, and pinch to shape.
  6. Build a small thread head, whip finish and cement.
