Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved emerger/nymph hook (e.g. TMC 2487), 16-20
  • Thread Brown 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Black bead (Small tungsten bead)
  • Shuck Brown permanent marker (A few Zelon fibers (optional))
  • Body Chocolate brown (Tying thread)
  • Rib Gold middle (Extra-fine wire)
  • Wing White uni stretch (Thin closed-cell foam strip)
  • Thorax Peacock ice dub (One turn of herl or brown dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the bead to the eye, mount the hook and start the thread.
  2. Tie in a short brown Zelon shuck at the bend if using.
  3. Bind in the fine wire and build a slim chocolate-brown thread body to the 70% mark, then rib forward in 5-6 open turns.
  4. Tie a short white foam wing over the top just behind the bead as a visible trigger and to keep the profile riding right.
  5. Add a turn of peacock or a pinch of brown dubbing for the thorax behind the bead.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and cement.
