Thorax Brown permanent marker (nymph dubbing blend with a little flash)
How to tie it
Slide a brown bead on the Daiichi 1760 and start dark brown UTC 70 behind it. Tie the copper brown wire in alongside the shank, then tie in four or five pheasant tail fibers at the bend so the tips stand out the back as the tail.
Wind the same pheasant tail fibers forward to about the 70% mark for the body. Using one bunch for both tail and body keeps the transition seamless and the abdomen slim.
Open-spiral the copper brown wire forward over the body for segmentation, tie it off and helicopter the excess away.
Tie a strip of Scud Back in on top at the 70% mark for the wing case, leaving room behind the bead to work.
Dub a fatter thorax of the brown nymph blend up to the bead. A little flash in the dubbing is the tyer's preference for all his nymphs. It picks up light where the wing case will shadow the body.
Pull the Scud Back over the thorax, tie it off, trim and whip finish. Brush the thorax out to pick legs from the dubbing, then glue the thread wraps.
