Chironomid Larva Bead
Midge · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version
Reference Recipe
- Hook Curved scud/pupa hook (e.g. TMC 2457), 12-16
- Thread Red 8/0
Materials
- Bead Silver bead (Small tungsten or brass bead)
- Body Blood red (Red thread or small red D-Rib)
- Rib Silver metal tape (Fine wire (optional))
- Finish Clear head cement (UV resin or head cement)
How to tie it
- Slide the bead to the eye, mount the hook and start the thread.
- Wind the thread all the way around the bend and slightly down the point for the curved, wormy look of a bloodworm.
- Lay a smooth thread body forward to behind the bead, keeping it thin, then bind in and rib the wire in 5-6 open turns if using.
- Wrap the thread body back and forth to a slight taper and tie off behind the bead.
- Whip finish behind the bead.
- Coat the whole body with a thin skim of UV resin or cement so it glistens like a real larva.
