Chiron Pupa Black
Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version
Classic Recipe
- Hook Curved scud/pupa hook (Tiemco 2457/2487), 12-18
- Thread Black 8/0 (70 denier)
Materials
- Bead Black or silver bead (optional) (1)
- Body Black thread or black stretch tubing (as needed)
- Rib Fine silver or red wire (1 length)
- Thorax Peacock herl or black dubbing (as needed)
- Gills White Antron or poly (small tuft)
How to tie it
- Optionally slide a small bead to the eye. Lay a slim, smooth black thread base down the curved shank to the bend.
- Tie in the wire rib at the rear, then build a slender, slightly tapered black body forward (thread alone, or over a stretch-tubing overwrap).
- Counter-rib the wire in 5-6 evenly spaced open turns for segmentation and a gas-bubble sheen; tie off.
- Wrap a small peacock herl or black dubbing thorax just behind the bead/eye.
- Tie in a short tuft of white Antron on top for gills and trim it stubby.
- Whip finish and coat the body with a thin layer of UV resin or head cement for shine and durability, leaving the gills unglued.
- Keep it slim; chironomid pupae are thin.
