  • Hook Heavyweight curved grub hook, barbless (e.g. Fulling Mill 35005), 10-12
  • Thread Brown 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Gold bead (Tungsten bead, 2.8mm)
  • Tail Golden brown swiss straw (Brahma hen or partridge fibers)
  • Body/Thorax Pheasant tail (Ice Dub)
  • Overbody Mottled natural material (Thin Skin)
  • Rib Gold middle (Small Ultra Wire)
  • Thorax stripe Copper thorax stripe (Holographic tinsel)
  • Finish Clear head cement (UV resin)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the gold bead to the eye, mount the hook and start the thread.
  2. At the bend tie in a short, mobile tail of golden-brown hen fibers, about one shank long.
  3. Bind in the gold wire and a strip of mottled Thin Skin, then dub a slim pheasant-tail abdomen to the 60% mark.
  4. Fold the Thin Skin over as a shellback and rib it down with 5-6 open, evenly spaced turns of wire.
  5. Dub a wider thorax, lay a copper holo stripe over the top for the trigger, then bring the remaining Thin Skin over and tie off behind the bead.
  6. Whip finish, then seal the shellback and thorax with a thin coat of UV resin and cure.
