Reference Recipe

  • Hook Saltwater flats hook (e.g. TMC 811S), 4-8
  • Thread Burnt orange 3/0

Materials

  • Eyes Gold middle (Bead chain (or lead eyes for depth))
  • Tail Gold middle (Small clump of Krystal Flash)
  • Underbody Gold middle (Flat gold Mylar tinsel)
  • Body Clear head cement (Clear V-Rib over the Mylar)
  • Wing Orange permanent marker (Sparse dyed bucktail)
  • Overwing Pearl anti static bag strip (A few strands Krystal Flash)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start the thread, then bind the bead-chain eyes on top at the 80% mark.
  2. At the bend tie in a short gold Krystal Flash tail, less than one shank long.
  3. Tie in flat gold Mylar and a strand of clear V-Rib, wind the Mylar forward, then rib over it with the V-Rib for a shrimpy segmented shell.
  4. Turn the hook point-up and tie in a sparse orange bucktail wing behind the eyes so it rides clear of the point.
  5. Add a few strands of pearl flash over the wing, extending just past the tail.
  6. Wrap a small thread head, whip finish and cement.
