Reference Recipe

  • Hook 3XL streamer hook, 4-10
  • Thread Black 6/0

Materials

  • Bead Gold bead (One tungsten bead sized to hook)
  • Tail Black ostrich herl (One marabou plume, one shank long)
  • Flash Pearl flashabou (4-6 strands Krystal Flash (optional))
  • Body Black ostrich herl (Medium chenille)
  • Hackle Black hackle (One saddle hackle, palmered)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (Small wire (optional counter-wrap))

How to tie it

  1. Slide the bead to the eye, mount the hook and start the thread behind the bead.
  2. At the bend, tie in a marabou tail one shank long and add a few strands of flash the same length.
  3. Tie in the saddle hackle by the tip and the chenille, then wind the thread forward to behind the bead.
  4. Wrap the chenille forward in touching turns and tie off behind the bead.
  5. Palmer the hackle forward in 5-6 evenly spaced turns and tie off; counter-wrap the wire through the hackle to lock it if using.
  6. Build a small thread collar, whip finish behind the bead and cement.
