How to tie it
Mount the bend-back hook and start the mono thread just behind the eye; dress the bent upright and tie in the brass eyes there with tight cross-wraps and 'dutch' wraps beneath so the fly rides hook-point-up. Wrap the thread down and a third of the way around the bend.
At the bend, tie in a clump of chartreuse arctic fox as the mouth parts (guard hairs pulled and restacked), pointing down at the tie-in (which will ride up on the finished fly); bind and trim the butts.
Flatten the stems of the tan mono eyes with pliers and tie one along each side so they extend to about the middle of the mouth parts, pointing down.
Tie in a single barred rubber strand by its center just ahead of the mouth parts as the antennae, folding both ends back over the top.
Tie a second, shorter clump of chartreuse fox on the underside of the hook as the lower mouth parts.
Add a pair of knotted barred rubber legs at the sides, then build the body/carapace forward with an EP brush or fox dubbing to the eyes, optionally pulling a thin-skin strip over the back as a shell.
Whip finish at the head and coat the carapace and head with clear UV resin; cure.
