Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2X-strong nymph/wet hook (e.g. Daiichi 1560), 6-10
  • Thread White 6/0

Materials

  • Tail Sand grizzly hackle (One clump of grizzly chickabou)
  • Body Bonefish tan (Micro/midge cactus chenille)
  • Collar Wood duck gold (One mallard flank feather)
  • Head Orange permanent marker (1 shank-length piece of McFly Foam)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start the thread, winding back to the barb.
  2. Tie in the grizzly chickabou tail about one shank long and wispy.
  3. Bind in the micro cactus chenille and wrap it forward to the 75% mark for the body.
  4. Tie in a mallard flank by the tip and take 2-3 turns as a soft collar, then bind off and snip the excess.
  5. Fold a shank-length piece of McFly Foam over the shank and lash it down in the middle with 8-10 tight wraps to spread it into an egg-shaped head.
  6. Whip finish under the head and primp the foam back into a round egg shape.
