Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard bonefish/flats hook, 4-8
  • Thread Tan 140 denier

Materials

  • Bead Tungsten jig bomb (one, mid shank)
  • Tail Tan carapace (arctic fox with pearl flash)
  • Eyes Black ostrich herl (burnt mono, one per side)
  • Body Tan carapace (flat diamond braid)
  • Hackle Tan/grizzly hackle (one saddle, palmered)
  • Wing Tan carapace (arctic fox, sparse)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook point-up and seat a tungsten jig bomb at mid shank so the fly rides hook-up and lands quietly.
  2. Start thread and tie in a sparse arctic fox tail with a couple of pearl flash strands at the bend.
  3. Add a burnt-mono eye to each side just ahead of the tail.
  4. Tie in a tan hackle and flat braid, wrap the braid forward over the bead, then palmer the hackle through it as legs.
  5. Lay a very sparse arctic fox wing over the back and bind it behind the eye.
  6. Whip finish and coat the head with UV resin, keeping the whole fly lean for a soft entry.
