Reference Recipe

  • Hook standard saltwater hook, 4-8
  • Thread White 140 denier

Materials

  • Bead Tungsten jig bomb (optional) (one, mid shank)
  • Tail White/honey (four to six hen hackles, splayed)
  • Flash Pearl flashabou (a few strands)
  • Collar Tan/honey (arctic fox)
  • Eyes Silver metal tape (stick-on, one per side)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and, if weighting, seat a tungsten jig bomb at mid shank; start thread at the bend.
  2. Pair four to six hen hackles back to back so they splay outward and bind them in as a Deceiver-style tail one and a half shank lengths long.
  3. Add a few strands of pearl flash along each side of the tail.
  4. Tie in and wind a sparse arctic fox collar so the fibers sweep back and blend into the tail.
  5. Build a tapered thread head and set a stick-on eye on each side.
  6. Whip finish and lock the head and eyes with UV resin or cement.
  7. Keep the whole fly sparse so it lands soft and breathes in the water.
