Baitfish · Striped Bass · Bluefish · Jack · Tarpon · Snook · Redfish · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Umpqua XS435 saltwater bendback hook, 2-6
  • Thread White 140 denier

Materials

  • Bead Tungsten jig bomb (one, mid shank)
  • Body Pearl anti static bag strip (flat braid)
  • Wing Tan over white (bucktail)
  • Flash Pearl flashabou (a few strands)
  • Eyes Silver holographic ice dub (stick-on, one per side)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the bendback hook so the point rides up, and secure a tungsten jig bomb at mid shank on flattened mono to balance the fly.
  2. Start thread and wrap a smooth base, then tie in pearl flat braid at the bend.
  3. Wind the braid forward over the shank and tie off behind the eye.
  4. Stack a sparse clump of white bucktail then tan bucktail on top of the shank so it drapes back over and shields the up-riding point, keeping it weedless.
  5. Add a few strands of pearl flash along the wing.
  6. Set a holographic eye on each side and lock everything with a whip finish.
  7. Coat the head and eyes with UV resin or cement to finish.
