Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL-3XL dry/nymph hook, 6-10
  • Thread Tan 140 denier

Materials

  • Underbody Tan carapace (foam strip base)
  • Body (bottom) Black ostrich herl (2mm foam strip)
  • Body (top) Tan carapace (2mm foam strip)
  • Legs Barred tan/brown rubber legs (round rubber, two per side)
  • Indicator Orange permanent marker (2mm foam tab)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and lay a full thread base along the shank.
  2. Stack a black foam strip under a tan foam strip and bind both down at the bend, leaving a short tail stub.
  3. Bind the layered foam down again with tight wraps at the midpoint to form the first segment.
  4. Figure-8 a barred rubber leg to each side at that first tie-down point so they kick out.
  5. Advance thread, cinch the foam once more near the front, and add a second pair of rubber legs.
  6. Fold the tan top strip forward to form a head, bind behind the eye, and tie an orange foam indicator tab on top.
  7. Whip finish under the foam head and cement; trim legs to about a shank length.
