Reference Recipe
- Hook light wire grub/emerger hook, 14-18
- Thread Black 70 denier
Materials
- Tail Black ostrich herl (hen back or pheasant tail fibers)
- Rib Silver metal tape (small wire)
- Abdomen Black ostrich herl (dry-fly dubbing)
- Hot spot Red buzzer wrap (dubbing)
- Post Red buzzer wrap (flex-floss loop)
- Hackle Grizzly hackle (one feather, stacked)
How to tie it
- Mount the hook and start black thread, wrapping a base back to the bend.
- Tie in a short black fiber tail and a length of small silver wire for the rib.
- Dub a slim black abdomen forward to the 60% mark, then counter-wrap the wire in 4-5 open turns and tie off.
- Tie in a loop of red flex-floss standing up as a post, and wind a grizzly hackle up the post and back down (hackle-stacker style).
- Add a touch of red dubbing at the front as a hot spot, then fold the flex-floss loop with its stacked hackle forward over the thorax.
- Bind the loop down behind the eye so the hackle fibers splay flat over the top, then whip finish and cement.
