Classic Recipe

  • Hook Articulated streamer (Fulling Mill 36040 front shank; Daiichi 2461 rear); connected with intruder wire, 2 (front); 2 rear shank
  • Thread Black or orange 210 denier flat waxed

Materials

  • Eyes BallZeyes, large (orange) (1 pair)
  • Rear body/tail Arizona Mega Simi Seal (black/orange 'Halloween' mix) (dubbing loop)
  • Hackle Medium palmer chenille (black) (1 length)
  • Articulation Senyo intruder trailer-hook wire + 3D articulation beads (orange) (as needed)
  • Collar Strung marabou (black and orange) (2-3 clumps)
  • Legs Silicone flutter legs (barred black/orange) (several)
  • Flash Black/orange or copper Krystal Flash (small bunch)

How to tie it

  1. On the rear (Daiichi 2461) shank, spin a thick black/orange Simi Seal dubbing loop and wrap forward to a shaggy tail-body, palmering a black chenille hackle through it; add a few strands of flash and a black-and-orange marabou collar at the front of the rear hook.
  2. Connect the rear section to the front (Fulling Mill 36040) shank with doubled intruder wire threaded through orange 3D articulation beads, and lash the joint down snug but leave the tail free to swing.
  3. Build another Simi Seal dubbing loop and wrap it up the front shank, palmering a chenille hackle for a full, moving body.
  4. Tie in barred silicone flutter legs at the sides and another black/orange marabou collar to veil the body.
  5. Mount the orange BallZeyes on top behind the head with figure-eight wraps.
  6. Brush a dense dubbing/velcro-picked collar around the eyes to form a water-pushing head, whip finish and cement.
  7. Comb the whole fly out for a big, breathing, high-contrast profile.
