Lay a red thread base back to about the hook point.
Tail: two whole Grizzly hen feathers with the fluff stripped from the stems, set concave sides together and tied in perpendicular. A couple of loose wraps first, then tighter wraps back; bury the butts with wraps or snip them.
Rib: catch in a strand of red floss at the tail.
Body: the Yellow wool yarn tied in full, all four strands on this size 4, wrapped in touching turns as smooth as you can to a little behind the eye, leaving room for the wing, collar and head. Trim and lock with a couple of extra wraps.
Counter-wrap the red floss rib forward so it rides on top of the wool instead of sinking into the grooves; catch it off with a couple of wraps.
Wing: two more Grizzly hen feathers, bigger and scragglier, stems stripped, concave sides together. Catch them in on top a little back from the eye to leave room for the collar, and snip the excess.
Hackle: one more Grizzly hen feather with long fibers, caught in by the tip but well back from it so the first turn lays down fibers reaching nearly to the hook point. Fold the fibers back, a couple of wraps back, snip the tip. Wrap three or four turns for a big bushy collar, secure with two wraps and snip.
Push the collar back and build a big red thread head, whip finish, snip any stray fibers, and finish with head cement or UV resin.
