Materials
Bead Your choice, a bead colour that suggests the emerging wing buds (One, sized to the hook)
Uni-Stretch White uni stretch (A short piece for the gills)
Wire Copper brown, small (One strand for the rib)
Window tint Neutral gray (One thin strip, cut with a razor blade)
UV resin (thin hard) or nail polish Clear uv resin (A thin coat)
How to tie it
Lay a short thread foundation behind the eye and tie in a piece of white Uni-Stretch as the gills, leaving them prominent for now. They get trimmed at the end.
Slide the bead up over the gill material and secure it, then take the thread back down the shank.
Tie the copper brown wire down along the back of the shank and carry the thread almost to the bend.
Build a slender, evenly tapered underbody with the thread, spinning the bobbin to flatten and thin the thread so you are not adding bulk; spin it tight again whenever you need to lock something in.
Peel the clear backing off a thin strip of neutral gray window tint and wrap it forward in slightly overlapping turns to the bead, tying it off securely.
Wrap the wire forward in five to seven evenly spaced ribs, tie it off behind the bead and break the excess off.
Whip finish behind the bead, then wet the gills and trim them to a short, neat tuft.
Coat the whole body with thin hard UV resin, rotating the fly to cover it everywhere, and cure it under the light.
