Glass bead Ruby (One, sized to sit behind the cone)
Lead wire - (12 turns of .020)
Flashabou Magnum black holographic (Two strands for the underbody)
UV2 CLX dubbing (Spirit River) Black (also good in brown, olive brown with a copper bead, or olive) (A sparse pinch for the tail and enough to spin a sparse brush)
Brassy wire Brass brassy wire (One strand as the dubbing brush core)
Head cement Clear head cement (A drop)
How to tie it
Slide the black cone onto the hook, then a ruby glass bead behind it, and push both to the eye.
Wrap about 12 turns of.020 lead wire behind the bead, then build a thread dam behind the lead so there is a smooth transition onto the body material.
Take the thread to the bend and tie in a small pinch of UV2 CLX as a very sparse tail.
Tie in two strands of magnum black holographic Flashabou and wrap them forward as an underbody, then bring the thread forward.
Lay a sparse line of UV2 CLX on a dubbing table or block, put the thread over it, lay the brassy wire over the top and spin a dubbing brush. Keep it much sparser than feels right, then brush it out with a stiff nylon brush.
Wrap the brush forward in fairly wide, open turns, stroking the fibers back as a hackle with each turn, up to the glass bead.
Tie the wire off behind the glass bead, whip finish there and add head cement.
Pick the body out with a bodkin, comb the fibers back, and put a slight bend in the hook shank so the fly undulates rather than jigging.
