Classic Recipe
- Hook Curved scud/nymph hook (Tiemco 2487), 10-18
- Thread Black 70 denier (UTC 70)
Materials
- Tail/gills White Antron (small tuft each end)
- Body Small silver tinsel (or thread with wire rib) (1 length)
- Thorax Peacock herl (2-3 strands)
- Wing case Pheasant tail fibers (small bunch)
How to tie it
- Start thread at the bend and tie in a short tuft of white Antron for the trailing shuck/tail, kept sparse.
- Tie in the silver tinsel (or wire) and wrap a slim, smooth body two-thirds up the shank; the shiny body imitates the gas bubble under the pupal shuck.
- Tie in a small bunch of pheasant tail fibers pointing forward to form the wing case later.
- Wrap 2-3 strands of peacock herl for a slim thorax just behind the eye.
- Pull the pheasant tail fibers over the top of the thorax to form the wing case and tie down behind the eye.
- Tie in a short tuft of white Antron on top behind the eye for the gills, splayed and trimmed short.
- Whip finish a small head and coat the body with a thin layer of head cement or UV resin for shine and durability.
