Chamois "Shammy" Worm
Nymph · Streamer · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version
Reference Recipe
- Hook 2XL curved scud/nymph hook, 8-14
- Thread Red 70 denier
Materials
- Bead Gold bead (one, sized to the hook gap (optional))
- Body Tan chamois (one thin leather strip)
- Underbody Red buzzer wrap (thread)
How to tie it
- Slide a gold bead on if using one, mount the hook and start red thread behind the bead.
- Cut a thin tapered strip of chamois leather a little longer than the shank.
- Bind the pointed end at the bend so a stub hangs off as a wiggly tail.
- Lay a smooth red thread underbody forward to just behind the bead.
- Pull the chamois strip over the top and bind it down behind the bead, leaving the tail end free.
- Whip finish and add a drop of head cement; wet the chamois to see the soft, translucent body it forms.
