Chamois "Shammy" Worm

Nymph · Streamer · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook 2XL curved scud/nymph hook, 8-14
  • Thread Red 70 denier

Materials

  • Bead Gold bead (one, sized to the hook gap (optional))
  • Body Tan chamois (one thin leather strip)
  • Underbody Red buzzer wrap (thread)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a gold bead on if using one, mount the hook and start red thread behind the bead.
  2. Cut a thin tapered strip of chamois leather a little longer than the shank.
  3. Bind the pointed end at the bend so a stub hangs off as a wiggly tail.
  4. Lay a smooth red thread underbody forward to just behind the bead.
  5. Pull the chamois strip over the top and bind it down behind the bead, leaving the tail end free.
  6. Whip finish and add a drop of head cement; wet the chamois to see the soft, translucent body it forms.
