Reference Recipe

  • Hook 3XL streamer hook, 4-10
  • Thread Black 6/0

Materials

  • Cone Gold cone (one, sized to the hook gap)
  • Tail Yellow mcflylon (marabou, one shank length)
  • Flash Pearl flashabou (4-6 strands Krystal Flash)
  • Body Brown/black variegated (medium chenille)
  • Hackle Grizzly hackle (one saddle, palmered)
  • Legs Yellow round rubber (round rubber, three per side)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a gold cone to the eye, mount the hook and start thread behind the cone.
  2. Wrap to the bend and tie in a yellow marabou tail one shank length long with a pinch of pearl flash.
  3. Tie in a grizzly hackle by the tip and a length of variegated brown/black chenille at the bend.
  4. Wrap the chenille forward to the cone, then palmer the hackle forward in 6 open turns and tie off.
  5. Figure-8 three yellow rubber legs per side at the 70% mark so they stand out level.
  6. Build a thread dam behind the cone, seat it, whip finish and cement.
