Reference Recipe

  • Hook 3XL streamer hook, 4-10
  • Thread Black 6/0

Materials

  • Cone Gold cone (one, sized to the hook gap)
  • Tail Black ostrich herl (marabou, one shank length)
  • Flash Pearl flashabou (4-6 strands Krystal Flash)
  • Body Black ostrich herl (medium chenille)
  • Hackle Black hackle (one saddle, palmered)
  • Legs Barred black/white rubber legs (round rubber, three per side)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a gold cone to the eye, mount the hook and start thread behind the cone.
  2. Wrap to the bend and tie in a black marabou tail one shank length long with a few strands of pearl flash.
  3. Tie in a black hackle by the tip and a length of black chenille at the bend.
  4. Wrap the chenille to the cone, then palmer the hackle forward in 6 open turns and tie off.
  5. Pinch three rubber legs to a side and figure-8 them in at the 70% mark so they splay out level.
  6. Build a thread head behind the cone, seat it tight, whip finish and cement.
