Reference Recipe

  • Hook 3XL streamer hook, 4-10
  • Thread Black 6/0

Materials

  • Cone Gold cone (one, sized to the hook gap)
  • Tail Black ostrich herl (marabou, one shank length)
  • Flash Pearl flashabou (4-6 strands Krystal Flash)
  • Body Black ostrich herl (medium chenille)
  • Hackle Brown hackle (one saddle, palmered)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a gold cone to the eye, mount the hook and start thread behind the cone.
  2. Wrap a thread base to the bend and tie in a marabou tail one shank length long, then add a few strands of pearl flash the same length.
  3. Tie in a brown hackle by the tip and a length of medium black chenille at the bend.
  4. Wrap the chenille forward in touching turns up to the cone and tie off.
  5. Palmer the hackle forward over the body in 5-6 evenly spaced turns, bind at the cone, and snip the excess.
  6. Build a small thread dam behind the cone to seat it tight, then whip finish and cement.
