Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved emerger hook, 18-22
  • Thread Black or gray 10/0 or 8/0

Materials

  • Trailing shuck Cream/amber material (sparse Z-lon)
  • Body Black or olive material (thread or fine dubbing)
  • Rib Fine silver (wire)
  • Wing/gills White uni stretch (sparse CDC tuft)
  • Thorax Black ostrich herl (fine dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread at the 70% mark.
  2. Bind a short cream shuck at the bend to suggest the shedding pupal skin.
  3. Wrap a slim body forward to the 60% mark with thread or a touch of dubbing.
  4. Counter-wrap the fine silver rib in 5 turns for segmentation and tie off.
  5. Tie in a short white CDC tuft at the front as emerging gills or wing.
  6. Dub a tiny thorax to lock the CDC in place.
  7. Whip finish behind the eye and snip.
