Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry-fly hook, 20-24
  • Thread Black or gray 10/0

Materials

  • Body Black or gray material (thread)
  • Rib (optional) Fine silver (wire)
  • Wing Light dun wing bud (sparse CDC tuft)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the tiny hook and start thread at the eye.
  2. Wrap a slim thread body back to the bend and forward to the 70% mark.
  3. Optionally counter-wrap a fine silver rib in 4-5 turns for a hint of segmentation.
  4. Tie in a short, sparse CDC tuft flat over the top as a surface wing.
  5. Build a tiny thread head.
  6. Whip finish behind the eye and snip.
