Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry-fly hook, 14-18
  • Thread Rusty brown or dun 8/0

Materials

  • Tail Dun microfibetts (microfibbets, split wide)
  • Body Rusty brown (fine dry-fly dubbing)
  • Wings Natural dun wing bud (CDC fibers, tied spent)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread at the bend.
  2. Split a microfibbet tail into a wide V, one shank length long.
  3. Dub a slim tapered body forward to the 65% mark.
  4. Tie in a bunch of CDC across the hook and figure-8 it flat to each side as spent wings.
  5. Add a touch of dubbing over the wing base to lock the spent posture.
  6. Whip finish behind the eye and snip.
