Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry-fly hook, 14-18
  • Thread Tan or olive 8/0

Materials

  • Trailing shuck Amber/brown material (Z-lon fibers)
  • Wing Natural dun wing bud (stacked CDC fibers, fanned)
  • Body PMD / BWO to match (fine dry-fly dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread at the 65% mark.
  2. Tie in a fanned upright CDC wing spread across the top in a 180-degree arc.
  3. Run thread to the bend and bind a short Z-lon trailing shuck, half a shank long.
  4. Dub a slim tapered body forward to the wing.
  5. Figure-8 a touch of dubbing at the wing base to seat the fan upright.
  6. Whip finish behind the eye and snip.
