Slide the 2.8 mm slotted tungsten Bead onto the Fulling Mill 5085 and seat it with the slot rotated where it needs to be. Start the Semperfli 12/0 Wood Duck thread behind the bead and run it to the bend.
Tail: three fibers of Pheasant Tail Natural bound in at the bend, kept short, followed by the UTC Ultra Wire Copper Small left on the spool.
Body: bind in four fibers of Pheasant Tail Natural at the bend and build an even thread underbody with no reverse taper, stopping where the thorax will start. Take one wrap by hand so the fibers lie together, then advance them in hackle pliers under light tension, keeping them clear of the hook point. Bind off and trim.
Rib: counter-wrap the copper wire forward in closed spiral turns to the thread and helicopter it off, no waste.
Wingcase: bind in the Veevus Pearlescent Tinsel with a loose wrap first, then tighten, making sure it stays on top.
Tie in Thread 2, Veevus 10/0 Red, and trim out the Wood Duck thread; the red thread is the collar.
Thorax: two strands of Peacock Hearl with the tips snipped off so they align. Catch them in with loose wraps, pull the tips into the thorax, and wrap the two together forward to the bead to keep the thorax thin.
Pull the tinsel Wingcase forward over the thorax and bind it down behind the bead.
Collar: form a dubbing loop, open it with the Swiss CDC tool, load the CDC Brown into it and close the loop. Spin it with hackle pliers, then wrap a few turns behind the bead, pulling the fibers back with each turn.
Stroke all the CDC back, take a couple of red thread wraps so everything lays back, and whip finish. Pinch any over-long CDC fibers to length with a fingernail.
