Wing CDC, two colours: grey and rusty red, in a split-thread loop
Thorax Synthetic dubbing, black
Coating Varnish over the quill body
How to tie it
Start the brown thread a little behind the eye and trim the tag. (D6SFbEBBYak 0:43)
Strip a peacock quill, trim its tip and tie it in along one side of the shank down to the bend. (D6SFbEBBYak 1:13)
Tie in three synthetic tail fibres on top of the shank, set them one and a half to two times the body length, and bind them down. (D6SFbEBBYak 2:11)
Build a slightly tapered underbody with thread. (D6SFbEBBYak 3:30)
Wrap the quill forward in tight touching turns for a segmented body, tie it off behind the eye and trim. (D6SFbEBBYak 3:49)
Stack a grey and a rusty red CDC feather, strip the fibres and hold them in a clip. (D6SFbEBBYak 5:09)
Split the thread with a twister tool and dub a very small amount of black synthetic dubbing for the thorax. (D6SFbEBBYak 6:32)
Wax the split thread, lay the CDC fibres between the two strands, spin it and wrap it as the wing, then stroke the fibres back and secure them. (D6SFbEBBYak 7:43)
Form the head, whip finish and cut the thread. (D6SFbEBBYak 9:41)
Trim over-long fibres and give the fragile quill body a thin coat of varnish. (D6SFbEBBYak 10:56)
