CDC Jig Streamer Minnow

Classic Recipe

  • Hook short-shank wide-gap jig hook (e.g. Fulling Mill jig), barbless, 10-14
  • Thread White or to match 6/0 (140 denier)

Materials

  • Bead Slotted tungsten, 3.2-3.8mm (silver, gold, or hot head) (1)
  • Tail Marabou or Finesse Fibre, olive/tan/white (1 small clump)
  • Flash A few strands Krystal Flash or Flashabou (few strands)
  • Body Sparse dubbing or thread, pearl/olive (as needed)
  • Collar CDC feathers, dun/olive/natural (2-3 feathers)
  • Eyes (optional) Painted or stick-on (1 pair)

How to tie it

  1. Slide the slotted tungsten bead onto the jig hook (point riding up) and start the thread behind it.
  2. Tie in a short marabou/Finesse Fibre tail about one shank length at the bend with a few strands of flash.
  3. Dub or wrap a sparse minnow body forward, leaving room behind the bead.
  4. Tie in two or three CDC feathers and wrap or fold them into a mobile collar behind the bead. Why: the CDC pulses and breathes on the pause, giving the tiny jig streamer baitfish life a stiff hackle can't.
  5. Sweep the CDC back, build a small thread head, and whip finish behind the bead.
