Reference Recipe

  • Hook Curved emerger hook, 10-12
  • Thread Olive 8/0

Materials

  • Trailing shuck Amber/olive material (Z-lon fibers)
  • Body Olive ostrich herl (green drake dubbing)
  • Rib Yellow mcflylon (fine thread or wire)
  • Wing Natural dun wing bud (2-3 CDC feathers)
  • Thorax Olive ostrich herl (dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread at the 70% mark.
  2. Bind a chunky olive shuck at the bend, half a shank long, to suggest the trailing nymphal skin.
  3. Dub a robust tapered abdomen forward to the 60% mark.
  4. Rib forward with fine yellow thread in 5-6 turns for segmentation and tie off.
  5. Stack two or three CDC feathers and tie them in as a full upright emerging wing.
  6. Dub a heavy thorax around the wing base to support the big wing.
  7. Whip finish behind the eye.
