Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 3 versions

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Jig or standard nymph hook, 14-20
  • Thread Olive or brown 8/0

Materials

  • Bead Silver or copper slotted tungsten bead (slotted tungsten, sized to hook)
  • Body Olive, brown, or hot orange material (thread coated with UV resin)
  • Collar Natural dun wing bud (sparse CDC fibers)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a slotted tungsten bead to the eye and mount the hook.
  2. Start thread behind the bead and build a smooth, thin, tapered body of thread back to the bend and forward again.
  3. Optionally add a short hot-spot band of colored thread just behind the bead.
  4. Coat the whole thread body in a thin layer of UV resin and cure it for a slick, fast-sinking finish.
  5. Tie in a very sparse pinch of CDC fibers behind the bead and take two turns as a short breathing collar.
  6. Sweep the CDC back, whip finish behind the bead, and snip.
