Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry-fly hook, 14-16
  • Thread Tan 8/0

Materials

  • Body Olive or tan material (fine dry-fly dubbing)
  • Underwing Natural dun wing bud (CDC fibers)
  • Overwing Natural case (fine deer hair)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and start thread at the 70% mark, then run back to the bend.
  2. Dub a slim tapered body forward to the 70% mark.
  3. Tie in a sparse CDC underwing, tips reaching just past the bend, tent-style over the body.
  4. Stack a small bunch of deer hair and tie it in as an overwing to the same length, tips rearward.
  5. Wrap firm thread turns to flare the deer butts, then trim them square to form a blunt head.
  6. Whip finish tight behind the eye.
