How to tie it
Wax the tying thread well before you start. The wax is what locks the CDC body down and makes this fly survive more than one fish.
Tie in Coq de Leon Rubion barbs as the tail. The stiff, speckled barbs hold the spent fly flat on the surface.
Tie in the brown perdigon rib, then wrap a yellow CDC feather forward as the body.
Rib forward with the well-waxed brown thread wound in the OPPOSITE direction to the body feather. Counter-wrapping is what locks the CDC fibres in place rather than letting them pull free.
Tie in selected natural grey CDC as spent wings, set out flat to each side at 90 degrees to the shank. The dead, wings-down silhouette of a spinner that has finished laying.
Finish the thorax with yellow CDC and whip finish. Between body, wings and thorax the whole fly takes only three CDC feathers.
