Materials
- Tail Wood duck / mallard flank (6-8 fibers)
- Body Gray-brown material (callibaetis or muskrat dubbing)
- Rib Gold middle (fine wire)
- Wingcase Dark mottled wing slip (mallard or turkey fibers)
- Thorax Gray-brown material (dubbing)
- Legs/gills Natural dun rubber legs (CDC fibers)
How to tie it
- Mount the hook and start thread mid-shank, then wrap back to the bend.
- Tie in a short tail of wood duck fibers, half a shank long.
- Dub a slim tapered abdomen forward to the 65% mark.
- Counter-wrap the gold rib in 5-6 evenly spaced turns and tie off.
- Pull a slip of dark mallard over the top for a wingcase tie-in point, leaving it folded back.
- Dub a fuller thorax, then fold a pinch of CDC fibers along each side as legs and gills.
- Draw the wingcase forward over the thorax, bind at the eye, and whip finish.
