Classic Recipe

  • Hook standard dry-fly hook (e.g. TMC 100), 12-16
  • Thread Tan or gray 8/0 (70 denier)

Materials

  • Tail Split microfibetts, dun (speckled) (6 fibers)
  • Abdomen Turkey biot, tan/gray (1)
  • Underwing CDC plume, medium dun (2 feathers)
  • Overwing Krystal Organza + grizzly-speckle poly, dun (small clump)
  • Thorax Superfine dubbing, gray-tan (1 pinch)

How to tie it

  1. Split a bunch of dun microfibetts into a tail about one and a half shank lengths at the bend.
  2. Tie in the tan/gray biot by the tip, cement, and wrap forward to the 65% mark for a segmented Callibaetis-colored abdomen.
  3. Tie in two dun CDC plumes plus a wisp of Organza (speckled poly optional to suggest the mottled Callibaetis wing) two eye-widths behind the eye.
  4. Figure-eight the wings flat and spent to each side.
  5. Dub a gray-tan thorax over the base and whip finish.
