Dry Fly · Trout · Grayling · Intermediate · 2 versions

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry-fly hook, 14-18
  • Thread Olive 8/0

Materials

  • Abdomen Olive or tan material (Goose biot)
  • Wing Natural dun wing bud (One or two CDC feathers)
  • Thorax Brown permanent marker (Fine dubbing)

How to tie it

  1. Mount the hook and run a thread base to the bend.
  2. Tie in a biot by the tip and wrap it forward to the 70% mark for a slim, segmented abdomen.
  3. Stack one or two CDC feathers and tie them in as a down-wing tented over the body, extending just past the bend.
  4. Trim the CDC butts and clean up the tie-down.
  5. Dub a small brown thorax in front of the wing to cover the wraps and suggest the head.
  6. Whip finish behind the eye.
