How to tie it
Start the tan 70-denier thread mid-shank and run it back to the bend.
Catch in the Antron yarn for the Body at the bend and wrap it forward in touching turns for a little flash and bulk, stopping with room ahead for the foam and wing. Bind it off and snip.
Pull a couple of small tufts from a natural CDC feather for the Underwing (it takes very little) and bind them in on top with a few wraps, extending well past the bend. Snip the excess at the front; at the back, pinch and break the CDC to length rather than cutting it.
Lay the 1.5 mm tan foam on top with its angle-cut end pointing back over the body and bind it down, advancing the thread forward to just behind the eye. Build a flat spot there; the free end of the foam will fold back over it later.
Clean and stack a clump of natural deer hair for the Wing and bind it in on top of the foam exactly as for an elk hair caddis. Let it spin a little so some fibers flare off the sides, then add several tight wraps to lock it.
Snip the deer hair butts at the front, but not close: leave short stubs so there is extra material to bind the folded foam onto. A few more wraps to lock the hair.
Fold the forward end of the foam back over the hair butts to form the balloon Head and bind it with a few wraps at the back of the head, then a couple more to secure.
Whip finish right at the back of the foam head. Snip the folded-back foam tag short, but leave enough that the thread wraps keep it in place.
