Materials

  • Bead Silver bead (2.8mm slotted tungsten)
  • Tail Dark pardo (Whiting CDL)
  • Abdomen Olive ostrich herl (Fulling Mill Eco Warrior Dubbing)
  • Collar Brown permanent marker (Fulling Mill CDC)
  • Thorax Golden olive material (Fulling Mill Tactical Microflash Dub)
  • Resin Clear uv resin (Solarez Bone Dry UV resin)

How to tie it

  1. Seat the 2.8mm silver slotted bead against the jig eye and lock it with a few thread wraps behind, then run the olive 70D back to the bend.
  2. Tie in a small bunch of dark pardo coq de leon for the tail, about half a shank long, and bind the butts forward to the 70% mark so the underbody is already tapered before any dubbing goes on.
  3. Dub a slim olive abdomen from the bend forward to the 70% mark, keeping it tight and sparse. On a size 16 the abdomen has to stay thin or the fly loses the slender mayfly-nymph outline that makes it work.
  4. Tie in a brown CDC feather by the tip at the 70% mark and take two turns as a collar, then stroke the fibers back and lock them with two thread wraps.
  5. Dub a short, spiky golden olive microflash thorax over the CDC butts up to the bead, then pick it out with a brush so the flash fibers poke through the CDC collar.
  6. Whip finish behind the bead and touch Bone Dry on the thread wraps at the tail tie-in and behind the bead only, leaving the CDC and picked-out thorax dry and mobile.
