Dry Fly · Trout · Grayling · Beginner · 1 version

Tyer Recipe

  • Hook Standard dry-fly, 12-16
  • Thread Tan 8/0

Materials

  • CDC feather Natural dun cdc feather (1 large feather)
  • Deer or elk hair Natural deer hair (small clump)

How to tie it

  1. Start thread behind the eye and run a thread base to the bend, leaving the thread hanging at the bend.
  2. Tie in a single CDC feather by the tip at the bend.
  3. Twist the CDC feather into a loose rope and wrap forward as a body to just behind the eye, then tie off.
  4. Stack a small clump of elk hair and tie in as a downwing over the CDC body with the tips extending to the bend.
  5. Lift the butts and take a few thread wraps in front to stand them slightly, forming a small head, and whip finish.
