Nymph · Trout · Intermediate · 1 version

Reference Recipe

  • Hook Heavy curved nymph hook, 10-14
  • Thread Olive 6/0

Materials

  • Bead Copper or black slotted tungsten bead (Slotted tungsten bead)
  • Rib Copper thorax stripe (Fine wire (optional))
  • Body Olive ostrich herl (Micro polar chenille)
  • Hot spot Fluorescent orange egg sac (Thread collar)

How to tie it

  1. Slide a slotted tungsten bead to the eye and start the thread behind it on the curved hook.
  2. If ribbing, tie in fine copper wire at the bend.
  3. Tie in the micro polar chenille at the bend.
  4. Wrap the chenille forward in touching turns to just behind the bead, stroking the fibers rearward each wrap, then tie off.
  5. Counter-wrap the optional wire forward in 4-5 open turns to lock the body and helicopter off the tag.
  6. Build a short fluorescent-orange thread hot spot behind the bead and whip finish.
